What happened to the FUSE Top 20 from July 3, 2012? I know there is a new countdown debuting every Tuesday, so I am just wondering why the one from July 3rd wasn’t posted. Also, does anyone know what happened to Allison Hagendorf? I still see clips of her on Fuse from time to time doing interviews and promos, but the last time couple of times I watched the Top 20 countdown I noticed she was no longer hosting alongside Juliya Chernetsky.

I don’t think there was a new episode on June 3. As for Allison, she seems to have been replaced by some new guy, although she’s still around doing interviews for FUSE, sometimes even on Top 20. That doesn’t seem like a promotion. Who knows. FUSE is a weird channel.

The whole thing with Allison is a mystery to me. On one hand they didn’t specifically say that the new guy (Esteban) was temporarily “filling in” for Allison, but on the other hand they never really introduced Esteban as the “new co-host” of the show or even said who he was and anything about him. Juliya just said something like “I’m Juliya and I’m here with Esteban” and I’m like “OK… who the heck is Esteban”? Still haven’t figured it out yet. Allison still appears to be part of the show, but I agree that her running around doing interviews and doing short promo spots is probably not a promotion and seems to be more of a step down from being the show’s co-host. I guess it’s not that surpring if it IS a permanent change. NYC radio DJ Goumba Johnny once joked that when a radio station gets rid of you it’s like the mafia doing a hit on someone. You don’t see it coming, and there’s usually no grand farewell party, or final goodbyes to your friends and fans. You just finish your show as usual and suddenly you are just… gone! They literally give notice on the spot, give you 5 minutes to pack up in the presence of 2 guards, and you’re escorted out a back door never to return. The station won’t acknowledge your departure and they’ll act as if you never even existed. The next day some new guy is on the radio in your place and listeners have no idea who he is or why he is there. Based on that, Allison should probably feel lucky that she is still a part of the show to some extent.

I work at FUSE as a freelancer and can tell you that she does ALOT of the On Tour and Festival events FUSE covers. She even hosts some of these festivals like Bonnaroo etc. From what we are hearing, Alison signed on with the CW Network. Not sure what she will be doing but looks like Esteban will be the new co-host.

Thanks for the insider info.

Thanks very much! I think Allison is awesome (even slightly more awesome than Juliya) so that is why the Top 20 Countdown isn’t really the same without her. To further complicate matters, last week’s episode featured Juliya and Yasmine as hosts. I thought maybe Yasmine was the new permanent co-host but this week Esteban is back.

On a separate note, I find there to be quite of few things that are somewhat fishy about this countdown. For instance, there are songs that suddenly debut on the Top 20 Countdown that I have literally NEVER heard on FUSE despite the fact that I watch it for several hours each day. How is the video popular enough to make the Top 20 when the network never or rarely plays the video? Also, one week there might be a song that debuts at a relatively high position on the chart, and the next week it is completely gone from the countdown and is never seen on the Top 20 again. If the video has enough popularity to debut at #8 on the show, how could it suddenly be completely gone the next week? Seems very fishy to me. I think we got some payola going on or something like that. A good example is the song “#1 Nite by Cobra Starship featuring My Name is Kay. The song debuted somewhere around #8 a week or two ago, and in this week’s countdown the song doesn’t appear at all. Meanwhile there are other songs that were way down at #19 and 6 weeks later they are still on the countdown. I just don’t buy all the chart positions. The whole thing seems quite bogus, but I do still enjoy watching the videos and hearing the songs and keeping up with what’s popular in the world of music videos.

That’s kind of exactly how I feel on that issue. The one-and-done videos are perhaps the most fascinating (and ridiculous [and stupid?]) part of the show. Some of the videos that only appear once seem to coincide with that artist appearing as a guest that week, and the video’s spot on the countdown is determined solely by at what point in the show the guest appears.

Yeah, no doubt. I remember one week they had Imagine Dragons on the show and that week their video “It’s Time” suddenly debuted at #16 on the countdown. It was never in the Top 20 again. (Although it does appear regularly on the FUSE Alternative countdown). Another week they had Silversun Pickups and their video “Bloody Mary” suddenly debuted on the countdown. That was also gone from the Top 20 by the next week. Another song that suddenly appeared on the countdown was “Party on 5th Ave” by Mac Miller. It debuted at #11 on July 10th and was gone by the next week. This week another Mac Miller song called “Missed Calls” suddenly appeared which will probably be gone by next week. LOL. It actually makes me wonder if artists literally stop by FUSE and say “Hey, here’s a couple hundred bucks. Stick our latest video onto the Top 20 Countdown as a DEBUT this week and give it a decent position”. The next week the video doesn’t get any “REAL” votes so it’s then dropped from the countdown. Who knows. I keep track of all this stuff only because I’m a DJ and I have my own entertainment business so it helps for me to always keep up with every aspect of the music world. As of right now, our most requested song at parties and events is “Call Me Maybe” so there’s no doubt about that song being #1.
