Jeff “jmunney” Malone watches every new episode of Saturday Night Live and then reviews all the sketches and segments according to a “wacky” theme.

It’s a case of the Terrible Twos! Shane Gillis and Tate McRae are both in their SNL Toddler Era, as they simultaneously make their sophomore guest appearances on the March 1, 2025 episode.

Since this is the first episode after the 50th anniversary special, I’m going to review it by discussing whether or not I think each segment will end up being spotlighted in the 100th anniversary special.

Trump/Zelenskyy Press Conference: I hope this isn’t in the 100th anniversary. I’m happy to let it remain fully of-the-moment.

Shane Gillis’ Monologue: If Shane keeps hosting multiple times at this rate, he’ll almost certainly be featured somehow someway in the coming anniversary specials. I don’t know if this particular monologue will be heavily incorporated, but I was at least amused by his Shelby Foote impression.

Winery Tour: Whether or not this sketch ends up in the 100th special depends a great deal on Michael Cera’s legacy.

Coupla Beers: It’s always a good idea to make a montage of commercial parodies for an anniversary special.

WANU Mid-Day News: You know, SNL has a decent legacy of race-based humor, so that’s certainly something that could be spotlighted in an anniversary special.

Dad’s House: If there’s a segment about puppets in the 100th special, this sketch could certainly be given a mention.

please don’t destroy: The Sound: I’d probably categorize this under the “Further Viewing” section of please don’t destroy’s oeuvre, so it probably won’t be in an anniversary special, but you never know.

Tate McRae, “Sports car”: Is Ms. McRae becoming a Studio 8H favorite? If so, we could certainly see her in an anniversary special, but I’m more concerned about who stacked all those chairs.

Weekend Update: The Jokes: If any joke from this edition is included in an anniversary special, it’ll probably be Che saying “only one more to go, baby.” (Or maybe they’ll make a “Seen Here” montage.)
Weekend Update: The Movie Guy: I laughed quite a bit at this latest creation from Marcello, and if this cinema fellow becomes a recurring character, we might just be hearing about his love of SpongeBob in many anniversary specials to come.
Weekend Update: Jane Wickline: Colin Jost was confused about Jane’s focus on the trolley problem, which doesn’t bode well for her anniversary chances. But that doesn’t mean that this wasn’t clever! Because in fact it was.

Wedding Interruption: Maybe if the 100th anniversary special wants to include a segment showcasing how Sarah Sherman doesn’t have to be a total nutbar to be funny, then this sketch could make an appearance.

Tate McRae, “Dear god”: See my previous comment about Tate’s first performance. Also, legend has it that the chairs are still stacked on the stage to this day.

Doctor’s Visit: I think there’s a more memorable sketch about autofellatio from the Will Ferrell era, but at least this one featured plenty of bonhomie.

Well, la-dee-da, there will be at least one more new episode of SNL in March 2025. It will feature Lady Gaga as both host and musical guest. She’s done that once before, so it’s reasonable to figure that she could be successful doing so again.
