Jeff “jmunney” Malone watches every new episode of Saturday Night Live and then reviews all the sketches and segments according to a “wacky” theme.
Here’s the deal: Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (better known by her stage name Lady Gaga) has memorably appeared multiple times on the sketch and variety show Saturday Night Live. And she did it again on the episode that began airing on March 8, 2025. Indeed, she served as both the host and the musical guest. She can’t help but keep herself busy, I reckon.
Because this episode aired on the eve of my birthday, and I’m writing the review on my birthday, I will be reviewing it by determining what was the most *festive* part of each segment.
White House Meeting: The most festive part of this cold open was the love for Aimee Lou Wood.
Lady Gaga’s Monologue: The most festive part of Gaga’s monologue was the unexpected applause for the dang Joker sequel.
A Long Goodbye: The most festive part of this sketch was the mention of Samsonite, because that’s some sturdy luggage that could make for a solid birthday gift to someone you love.
Midnight Matinee: Pip: The most festive part of this pre-taped segment was just how effective the rodent animation was, good job.
Fancy Dinner/Wonderful Tonight: The most festive part of this sketch was Bowen Yang’s energy, of course.
Funeral Planning: The most festive part of this sketch was the whole premise! A Roaring 20s-themed funeral? Sign me up!* (*-Maybe. Check back with me in several decades to be sure.)
L’Oreal Easy Run Mascara: The most festive part of this sketch was the resourcefulness, a characteristic that can come in handy on plenty o’ occasions.
Lady Gaga, “Abracadabra”: The most festive part of this musical performance was how it will inspire me to put this song on the Party 2025 Soundtrack. (Maybe I’ll even dress like Mephistopheles, too!)
Weekend Update: The Jokes: The most festive part of this edition of WU was, of course, the phrase “two buttfuls.”
Weekend Update: Kendrick Perkins: The most festive part of this WU guest segment was how it made you realize that Kenan Thompson would make a wonderful entertainer at any type of party.
Weekend Update: Lord Gaga: The most festive part of this WU guest segment was Colin Jost’s willingness to be mercilessly made fun of, thereby making him the opposite of a party pooper.
Friendly’s: The most festive part of this sketch was the fact that it was set on someone’s birthday. Anyway, I was totally down for the Church of Satan-meets-Temple of Doom vibes, and I wouldn’t mind if someone threw me a surprise party with that theme.
Lady Gaga, “Killah”: The most festive part of this musical performance was the fact that it included a core workout. You gotta exercise to work up an appetite before you go to a party!
Little Red Glasses: The most festive part of this infomercial-style sketch was the color RED! One of my favorite colors, in fact. And I actually have a few prescription pairs that look like that.
Brunch/No More Slay: The most festive part of this last sketch of the night was the fact that ultimately all of the characters were on the same page.
Well, once again, Happy Birthday to me and my fellow March Babies! I will return to my SNL reviewing ways in a few weeks. We weren’t informed of the date or guest lineup of the next new episode, but my internal crystal ball suggests that it’ll be on April 5.
