Jeff “jmunney” Malone watches every new episode of Saturday Night Live and then reviews all the sketches and segments according to a “wacky” theme.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers in the universe! Did you spend part of the holiday watching the newest Saturday Night Live? I sure did! It’s a great idea if Mom loves to laugh.

The 2025 Mother’s Day edition of SNL was hosted by Walton Goggins, whom you might recognize in recent months from The White Lotus or The Righteous Gemstones. He was also in a pretty entertaining movie called The Luckiest Man in America! Or perhaps you remember him from back when as the primary antagonist on Justified. But I think I like him best for the short-lived sitcom The Unicorn.

The musical guest was the rock ‘n’ roll band Arcade Fire, whom you might remember from their five previous appearances on the show, dating all the way back to 2007. I wonder what 18-year-olds who weren’t alive at that time think of them?

Seeing as it is Mother’s Day, I’m going to review each sketch and segment by asking: Would Mom like this sketch? Now, of course, there are many different moms out there, and not all of them have the same sensibilities. So one mom might love a sketch that another absolutely hates. But I’ll do my best anyway.

A Mother’s Day Message from SNL: A few cast members and their moms have something to say, but then they’re interrupted by James Austin Johnson’s impression of Donald Trump (with special appearances by Cecily Strong and Colin Jost as other folks in the president’s orbit). I imagine that Mom would find this rather rude, but maybe a few moms are twisted enough to appreciate the aggro-ness.

Walton Goggins’ Monologue: I bet a lot of moms have a crush on Mr. Goggins!

Constitution Meeting: Some guy named Matt pushes hard for the right to bear arms in 1789; Mom’s love or not of this sketch will likely hinge on her appreciation of Walton’s charisma.

Tiny Baby Shoe: A zoo visitor discovers that a tiny piece of footwear bizarrely belongs to a grown man with small feet: maybe Mom will like this if it reminds her of when we were babies?

Mother’s Day Brunch: Okay, now we’re just going overboard in service of the moms who have a crush on Walton.

Handful of Hope: Service dogs-in-training must watch a theatrical performance of a low-rent Tennesee Williams pastiche: if Mom can’t appreciate all those doggos, I’m not sure I want to know her!

Arcade Fire, “Pink Elephant”: Consider this: there are surely plenty of folks who fell in love with Arcade Fire in high school or college who are now moms today.

Weekend Update: The Jokes: There was a joke about pregnancy and American Airlines, so that was certainly timely. Otherwise, I imagine that plenty of moms are constantly side-eyeing Colin and Michael’s shenanigans.
Weekend Update: The Movie Guy: The doorman played by Marcello Hernandez returns to share his thoughts about some flicks he hasn’t seen: Mom probably appreciates how adorable Marcello is.
Weekend Update: A Guy Who Just Walked Into a Spiderweb: Mikey Day has a skinny dad bod, don’t you think? So some moms wolf-whistled, I bet.
Weekend Update: Dianne (The Mom Who’s Only Read About New York on Facebook): If Mom personally resonates with this segment, it might be time to stage an intervention.

Deathly Diner: A horror-themed eating establishment hasn’t really fully fleshed out its backstory; if Mom cackles at this sketch, then that’s a happy wife, happy life.

Arcade Fire, “Year of the Snake”: If Mom often hangs out at the Ren Faire, I bet she’ll like this performance.

Midnight Matinee: Boss’s Bathroom: Some dude can’t stop thinking about his boss straining on the toilet after he spies his squatty potty; I bet Mom has a remedy for that!

Are you ready for the 50th season finale? Because it’s coming soon. Next week in fact! Veterans Scarlett Johannson and Bad Bunny will handle guest duties.
