They keep making new movies, and some of them are even worth watching. Here’s what’s at the top of the slate for August 2025:

The Naked Gun: This is a silly comedy about Los Angeles’ Police Squad, the new version. You might have seen the Police Squad! TV show from 1982, or the Naked Gun movies from 1988, 1991, or 1994. Liam Neeson takes over Leading Man Duties from Leslie Nielsen.

The Naked Gun will fulfill its destiny in movie theaters on August 1.

Weapons: Zach Cregger successfully made the transition from sketch comedian to horror auteur with 2022’s wonderfully disturbing Barbarian. Now he’s back with a creepy-looking tale about a class of schoolchildren who mysteriously disappear.

Weapons can be found in theaters on August 8.

Highest 2 Lowest: Spike Lee and Denzel Washington are collabing for another joint. I know hardly anything about the plot (besides Wikipedia referring to it as a “modern-day reimagining” of an Akira Kurosawa movie). But honestly, do we need to know anything other than Spike and Denzel are together again?
