Jeff “jmunney” Malone watches every new episode of Saturday Night Live and then reviews all the sketches and segments according to a “wacky” theme.

Chop, chop, chop!

I said that because Sabrina Carpenter just fulfilled Double Duty on Saturday Night Live! (We would have also accepted a reference to Jesus Christ.) Anyway, she seems to have gotten really comfortable at Studio 8H the last few years. And I’m perfectly okay with that!

Since Sabrina is from the same county in Pennsylvania as me, the theme of this episode review is going to be “The Keystone.” Pennsylvania is nicknamed the Keystone State, ergo I shall identify the most key(stone) aspect of each sketch.

Olive Garden 30th Birthday/Domingo: Uh-oh, Domingo’s back! The Keystone of this sketch was of course the audience familiarity with this phenomenon of a recurring routine, but the part that made me laugh the most was the bit about the hoodie from Hudson News.

Sabrina Carpenter’s Monologue: The Keystone of this monologue is that it underscored the idea that Sabrina is willing to say yes to anything.

Snack Homiez: The Keystone of this low-key podcast parody was, um… unc?

Plans: The Keystone of this horror movie trailer goof was the tint work on the picture editing.

Shop TV: The Keystone of this nudge, nudge-themed consumerist sketch was everyone being more aghast than they really needed to be. Chill out, don’t worry so much!

Girlboss Female Confidence Seminar: The keystone of this sketch was of course Sabrina’s skillz at speaking nonsense, but the part that made me laugh the most was the bit about the “gay community.”

Middle School Lovin’: The Keystone of this pre-filmed musical piece was the thesis that SNL cast members have never/will never outgrow their childhoods entirely.

Sabrina Carpenter, “Manchild”: The Keystone of Sabrina’s first song of the night was the text on her shirt and her bottoms and the fact that she kept spinning around so fast for us to be able to read what it said.

Weekend Update: The Jokes: The Keystone of this rendition of Update was that Michael and Colin are giving off “too old for this s—” vibes.
Weekend Update: The Movie Guy: The Keystone of this guileless recurring character from Marcello is that you just can’t help but love him!
Weekend Update: Tommy Brennan: The Keystone of this desk piece is that it successfully introduced new cast member Tommy Brennan’s whole deal to America.

Washer/Dryer Shopping: The Keystone of this sketch about singing appliances was its throwback approach, but the part that will stick with me the most is the concept of eating spaghetti on a bicycle.

Office Birthday Surprise: The Keystone of this sketch about farting in response to an unexpected birthday greeting was just how existentially unsettling it was.

Sabrina Carpenter, “Nobody’s Son”: The Keystone of Sabrina’s second song of the night was – quite literally – karate. Is she an actual black belt?

Social Experiment: The Keystone of this pre-filmed piece from writer Martin Herlihy was how willing it was to be frank.

SNL and my reviews of it will be back in November (specifically the 1st of November) with returning entertainers Miles Teller and Brandi Carlile. Happy Early One-Day-Before-Halloween!
