1. AXE – “Make Love, Not War” – With this Super Bowl spot, the deodorant brand made a simple, but brilliant, pacifist statement, with a tribute to passion that avoided schmaltz by having an edge.

2. Totino’s – “Pizza Freaks Unite” – Ever since directing a series of spots for Old Spice, Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim have had a significant effect on the commercial landscape. So whenever they are involved in a new ad, it is an event, as in this punk rock song featuring pizza freaks, pizza sax, vocal distortion, and a total lack of corporate b.s.

3. Lacoste – “The Big Leap” – You will feel your emotions bursting in this one-minute encapsulation of two people on the edge of taking a plunge.

4. Gap – “Golf” – It’s not just that an attractive girl is dancing, it’s that she’s doing so at night at a driving range with beautiful cinematography.

5. Mastercard – “One More Day of Vacation” – These adorable moppets speak the truth.

6. Android – “And you” – Andrew W.K.’s “Party Hard” has been inspiring us to let go and be ourselves for over a decade now. Why commercials do not use it more frequently is beyond me.

7. HTC – “Blah Blah Blah – Go Ahead, Ask the Internet” – It doesn’t matter what Gary Oldman says – it’s always going to be awesome and intimidating.

8. Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro – “Let’s Dance” – The future must be now, what with a couple of tablets inspiring my next great dance routine.
