If you binge through this list, you will get a good sense of the televisual excellence of 2015. These selections lean heavily toward comedy, for two reasons: I watch more comedies than dramas, and comedies naturally distill their greatness more readily into individual episodes while dramas do so more naturally in multi-episode arcs. The top 5 are ranked below, while the rest are unranked and organized alphabetically by show.

1. Inside Amy Schumer – “12 Angry Men Inside Amy Schumer” – One of the best classic film homages of all time; hilarious, technically impressive, and devastating.

2. Community – “Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television” – Community managed to pull off just about the perfect series finale for itself (even if it eventually turns out not to be the series finale).

3. The Eric Andre Show – “Bird Up!” – Luis Buñuel would be proud.

4. BoJack Horseman – “Let’s Find Out” – Finally, what we’ve been waiting for: the dirty details behind the scenes of a celebrity game show!

5. Rick and Morty – “Total Rickall” – This episode brings to fruition a delightfully dizzy and heady sci-fi concept and makes you cry for a character named Mr. Poopybutthole.
