How many Brats does it take to screw in an episode of SNL? (CREDIT: NBC/Screenshot)

Jeff “jmunney” Malone watches every new episode of Saturday Night Live and then reviews all the sketches and segments according to a “wacky” theme.

Happy Brat, everyone!

Yes, it’s true, Ms. Charlotte Emma Aitchison was both the host and THE musical guest of Season 50, Episode 7 of Saturday Night Live. You may have noticed that she released an album called Brat earlier this year. Brat isn’t just a collection of songs, it’s also a meme, and a lifestyle, and perhaps a revolution. So of course I’m going to review each sketch of this episode in terms of its Brat-ness.

Presidential Transition Meeting: That burn on Regal Cinemas was more bratty than Brat.

Charli XCX’s Monologue: Charli explaining what Brat is actually isn’t very Brat, but it was important.

Baby Shower: I guess you could call this “Rehearsed Brat.”

Wicked Screen Tests: Chloe Fineman seemed to be the main driving force behind this; I’m honestly not sure what that has to do with Brat, or lack thereof.

Thanksgiving Baking Championship: Not especially Brat (at least not purposefully so), but kinda funny.

Digital Short: Here I Go: White Upper Middle Class Brat.

Banger Boyz: Inverted Brat.

Charli XCX, “360”: The Brat-est part of this performance was how it looked like Charli had toilet paper hanging off her skirt.

Weekend Update: The Jokes: Honestly? This was a pretty Brat collection of jokes. But I think that Michael and Colin have already been moving in that direction the past few seasons.
Weekend Update: Joe Exotic: The actual Joe Exotic is Too Brat to Handle, while Bowen Yang’s impression of him is a SFW version.
Weekend Update: Peanut’s Widow: This is an example of how Sarah Sherman’s comedy is like Brat tossed into a blender.

Commercial Acting Class: Making odd emphasis choices while speaking is pretty Brat, considering that it’s something that you often have to do in a crowded nightclub.

Charli XCX, “Sympathy is a Knife”: I’m not sure how Brat it is that Charli is up there giving 110 percent without any backup singers or dancers, but I do know that it takes plenty of chutzpah.

It Girl Thanksgiving: Maybe the Brat-est part of this sketch is how many Brits it features (that’s a callback to something Charli said in her monologue).

Shrek the Musical: This is definitely the Brat Version of Shrek, or at least a Brat version of Shrek.

We’ll be taking a couple of Saturdays off to gobble everything up at the end of November, and then the December 7 episode will be hosted by that dang Paul Mescal, with musical guest Shaboozey.
