My annual podcast roundup isn’t a countdown of my favorites, but rather a reflection on some of the audio programs that made the biggest impact on me over the past trip around the Sun. Maybe you enjoyed some of these as well. Or maybe you have some of your own favorites that you’d like to recommend to me and everyone else. Podcasts are everywhere these days! If you want your own, all you have to do is go viral on the street (or do nothing at all, frankly).

NEW, or NEW TO ME:

The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast is probably my favorite example yet of TV stars recapping their past work (although I’m still waiting for them to realize how wonderful “Please Don’t Cut My Testicles” is)…I’ve enjoyed movies directed by Mike Flanagan, and now I’m enjoying him talking to other filmmakers on Directors Commentary…AJ McKeon works behind the scenes on some of my favorite podcasts, and now he’s on the mic alongside his son Hayes for the bite-size movie review podcast Kid Cinema…Oh hey, here’s another TV recap podcast! It’s called Middling, it’s about The Middle, and it’s hosted by two enthusiastic stars of that show.

STILL CHUGGING ALONG:

I listen to the “Eat Pray Dunk” portion of CBB Presents, which grew a little melancholy recently with the passing of the real Bill Walton…The top highlight of Comedy Bang! Bang! this year was surely a spirited debate about The Music Man…I wasn’t a regular listener of Threedom until 2024, but now I’m a certified Piss Pig…Here are some podcasts that don’t involve Scott Aukerman that I still eagerly look forward to every week: Blank Check with Griffin & David, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Doughboys, How Did This Get Made?…And here’s one more that does involves Mr. Aukerman: Scott Hasn’t Seen, especially the moment when a certain somebody who delivered a certain iconic movie line made a cameo on the “Scott Hasn’t Seenies” episode.

WHEN I PODCAST, I PREFER TO KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY:

And as for my own podcast ventures in 2024 alongside my Aunt Beth on That’s Auntertainment!, we discussed TWO Emmy ceremonies, said goodbye to Mr. Cooper, traveled to Paris, and went deep on Spooky Season.
