Jeff “jmunney” Malone watches every new episode of Saturday Night Live and then reviews all the sketches and segments according to a “wacky” theme.
May you enjoy reading a review of a Saturday Night Live episode? I hope you may, because I am about to share my thoughts on the May 2, 2026 outing that featured Olivia Rodrigo pulling double duty as both host and musical guest. For my Review Gimmick this time, I shall draw inspiration from my favorite part of her artistic output, which is the song “Good 4 U.” So I shall analyze each sketch and segment by including a sentiment that begins “Good 4.”
C-SPAN: White House Press Briefing: Good 4 anyone who got the idea to market scotch that looks like iced tea from this sketch.
Olivia Rodrigo’s Monologue: It feels good to say Good 4 U to Olivia instead of her saying it to us for a change, and her struggles with getting a REAL ID was a good start in that regard.
Edge of Destiny: Good 4 whoever designed that improbably balanced champagne flute arrangement.
Midnight Matinee: My Room: Good 4 for that protestor bug – that’s who came out looking the best from this report.
ShopTV: Good 4 Olivia for being comfortable with off-color humor. That’s important when appearing on a show like SNL!
Birthday Party: Good 4 acting classes, they’re probably going to see a bump in interest thanks to this sketch.
Olivia Rodrigo, “drop dead”: Good 4 anyone who was feeling nostalgic for Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, because Olivia’s dress during this performance reminded me of the dancers from that program.
Weekend Update: The Jokes: Good 4 all those viewers who want gags about the anchors making notes to themselves to remain immortal.
Weekend Update: Alix Earle and Alex Cooper: Good 4 anyone who was looking for some new catchphrases, I must say.
Weekend Update: Kam Patterson: Unearned confidence and its variants are Good 4 comedy.
Busted: Being comfortable in tight spaces while waiting for a cue is Good 4 for those who work in showbiz.
Olivia Rodrigo, “begged”: Music is Good 4 the soul, and that includes Olivia Rodrigo’s music, so I’m glad that she shared this new song with us. Also, I appreciated the fact that her sitting on a swing evoked her upcoming album cover.
Rasta Driver: I think it’s Good 4 the universe that we’ve been exposed to more dancehall.
SafeGuard: The fact that this episode had multiple jokes about Barstool Sports was ultimately Good 4 the goal of having a hefty number of laughs.
Well, writing that review was Good 4 me, and I hope that reading it was Good 4 you. And I hope that much the same is true when we reconvene next weekend for the Matt Damon/Noah Kahan episode.
