Okay, I suppose it’s time for another round of movie reviewing that is driven by the question: would I like to live in the world of this movie?
For Evil Dead Burn, the answer is of course “definitely not.” But at the same time, it’s not that far from a “yes.” Naturally, I don’t want to be bothered by the strong possibility of becoming possessed by a nasty undead creature. But we mustn’t forget that in the original Sam Raimi-directed entries in this series, the characters could eke out some fun amidst the ambush. There are a few notes of similar gory slapstick in Burn that are worth a chuckle, but it’s all within the larger context of dysfunctional and abusive family dynamics, which are always best avoided.
As for Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass, I simply must welcome this world with open arms. We could all use a Wizard of Oz dynamic in our lives, after all! As for the concept of allowing your significant other to sleep with their favorite famous person, that sounds intriguing, but also filled with potential pitfalls. Much less pitfall-plagued is this fictional landscape’s dorkily whimsical relationship with the town of Hollywood. I would expect nothing less from a movie directed by David Wain and co-written by Wain and Ken Marino, and indeed, they and their merry troupe of collaborators delivered as expected.
