The Dog Stars fully convinced me (if I wasn’t convinced already) that perpetually overcast movies should only be released in theaters in November or December. Certainly not in summer! Not even late summer. Maybe if The Dog Stars were a much better movie while still being just as cloudy, I might feel a little differently. But it’s important to draw a line. Anyway, much of this flick is pretty sleepy and had me wishing that I was outside enjoying the sunshine instead. Although there were a few sequences that made it worthwhile, particularly the new (and kinda freaky) society devised by Allison Janney’s character and any moment when Josh Brolin kept willfully confusing Mennonites with Mormons.
