Good morning*, my dear SNL Review Reading Audience. It’s time for me to discuss the 15th episode of the 51st season of Saturday Night Live, aka the second time in history that Harry Styles has turned in double duty as both host and musical guest. (And you know I’m in the right mood for this, having gone for a 45-minute run on Sunday morning.) Has anyone else ever pulled double duty like this multiple times before? Yes, I’m sure of it. Who exactly, you may ask? Well, Britney Spears comes to mind, for one.

Anyway, now that I’ve provided that windup of context, I shall inform you that my Reviewing Gimmick for this episode will take inspiration from the recent anniversary of my arrival into the world, as I declare “Happy Birthday” to the most birthday-riffic element of each sketch and segment.

Jeff’s Wacky SNL Review: Ryan Gosling/Gorillaz

I *AM* happy, and I’m feeling glad! (CREDIT: NBC/Screenshot)

Upon this Saturday Night Live Reviewing Morn, I’m in a pretty good mood, as it’s an unusually warm Sunday for early March in the Mid-Atlantic. I’m also in a good mood because the 14th episode of SNL Season 51 was (Spoiler Alert!) pretty dang funny! I wasn’t terribly surprised, as it boasted a returning favorite in the form of host Ryan Gosling. As for the tunes, they were provided by Gorillaz, merely making their SNL debut despite having already made us move for the better part of this century.

When Gosling was announced as this week’s host, I thought, “Is this his sixth time?” SNL‘s promotional team was apparently feeling similarly, with a video earlier this week suggesting that Mr. G. thought he was about to join the Five-Timers Club. But it turns out we were both overcounting, as this is actually only his fourth outing as emcee! So in honor of making an outsize impact in a limited time frame, my Reviewing Gimmick for this episode will be One Word for each sketch/segment, summing up my reactions as best as minimally possible.

Brrr! It’s been quite the eventful February. But the light at the end of the blizzard was new Saturday Night Live. For the 13th episode of the 51st season, we’ve got first-time host Connor Storrie and fourth-time musical guest Mumford & Sons. Since Connor is known for starring in the hockey-themed television program Heated Rivalry and since the Winter Olympics just wrapped up, my Review Gimmick for this episode will consist of declaring whether each sketch and segment is More Hot or More Cold.

Here we go with the review of the January 31, 2016 episode of Saturday Night Live. I’ve already gone on my Sunday morning run and consumed my Sunday morning scrambled eggs, chocolate chip muffin, and tea, so I’m ready to go!

Providing the funny and the tunes (or at least hoping to) are host Alexander Skarsgård (whom I famously once saw at a karaoke bar) and musical guest Cardi B. I think there might be something to this lineup.

Also of note: this is the One ThOuSaNdTh new episode of SNL (not including specials), so my Review Gimmick shall consist of incorporating 1000 (the number and/or the concept) into my assessment of each segment.

How’s it honking? (CREDIT: NBC/Screenshot)

Hello, People of Reality! If you’re reading this in a storm-affected region, thank you to the Electricity Gods for not knocking out your power. Anyway, it’s time to discuss yet another fresh episode of Saturday Night Live. This one features the hosting debut of newly-minted Oscar nominee Teyana Taylor. Before her acting career really started taking off, I knew her best for dancing in a music video and winning The Masked Singer. Has anyone else ever discovered that they would be up for an Academy Award while in the midst of prepping for some sketch comedy?

Rounding out the lineup for this episode are musical guest Geese, a group of cultishly adored rockers who (just like Ms. Taylor) originated in The City That Never Sleeps. I’ve yet to explore most of their discography, but I’m ready to dive in.

And because Geese are the musical guest, my Review Gimmick shall be Honking. So I might grade sketches out of a certain number of Honks, or perhaps I will express my enthusiasm or lack thereof with approving or disapproving Honks.

Well, if they insist, I’m happy to keep watching them debut new comedy sketches live from New York City on Saturday night. To clarify, I’m currently talking about the NBC television program Saturday Night Live, specifically the tenth episode of the 51st season, featuring host Finn Wolfhard and musical guest A$AP Rocky. The former is best-known for the Netflix series Stranger Things, which I famously have not watched beyond Season 1, despite having some desire to catch up. As for the latter (frequently also referred to by certain jokesters as “As Soon as Possible Rocky”), he’s got a very new album that I’ve been listening to, as well as a co-star in common with his host. Furthermore, before watching this episode, I wondered if some of his other funny recent co-stars might be inclined to make a cameo. Let’s find out!

For my Review Gimmick, I shall be returning to an oldie but a goodie of Transcribing the Notes I Took While Watching the Episode.

Wow, would you look at that? For the 9th episode of the 51st season of Saturday Night Live, we’ve got Ariana Grande as host and the one and only Cher as musical guest. I appreciate this reality we’re living in. At least this little slice of it.

As this is the last new episode before the 25th, and I’ve been in a particularly festive mood this holiday season, my reviewing gimmick for this episode will consist of saying “Merry Christmas” to whatever aspect of each sketch most deserves it.

Thank you for visiting this Saturday Night Live Review Space once again. In this edition, we’re dissecting the eighth episode of the 51st season. It was another British Invasion, as England natives Josh O’Connor and Lily Allen formed the guest lineup.

For my Reviewing Gimmick this time, I’ll be taking inspiration from the upcoming new SpongeBob movie. Thus, my take on each segment will be Bikini Bottom-themed as I utilize Mr. SquarePants’ signature declaration and declare what I’m Ready for from each sketch.

Adding a little something to December (CREDIT: NBC/Screenshot)

Will this be a December to remember? Well, laughter is often associated with memory, so hopefully SNL Season 51 will do its part to make its answer to that question a resounding “yes!” We have our first set of evidence in this regard in terms of the Melissa McCarthy-hosted December 6, 2025 episode, with musical guest Dijon. This is Ms. McCarthy’s 6th time hosting, but it’s my first time using a new reviewing gimmick, as I will assess where each sketch and segment should be categorized on the pH Scale. That is to say: I’ll be determining if they’re more acidic (less than 7) or more basic (greater than 7, up to 14). Am I being metaphorical here? Let’s find out!

Jeff’s Wacky SNL Review: Glen Powell/Olivia Dean

November in New York! (CREDIT: NBC/Screenshot)

Jeff “jmunney” Malone watches every new episode of Saturday Night Live and then reviews all the sketches and segments according to a “wacky” theme.

Since this is my last time reviewing SNL before November 27, 2025, I shall now say: Happy Thanksgiving! I know my fans expect me to wish them a festive Turkey Day, and I simply can’t disappoint.

Back to the sketches and the variety, this particular episode that I’m reviewing right now boasts host Glen Powell and musical guest Olivia Dean. This represents the first time for both of them in those official capacities, marking the second episode in a row in which that was the case. I’m pretty sure that’s not the first time that has happened in the show’s history.

Since Glen is currently starring in The Running Man, and I’ve been known for plenty of running myself, the reviewing gimmick for this episode will involve me incorporating Running into my thoughts on each sketch and segment. So for example, I might say, “Run, don’t walk, to YouTube to watch this sketch”, or “This sketch really had my motor running.”
