These are the movies I loved the most from 2021. There were many others, but these are my favorites. Forthwith are some descriptions of what happens in these movies. Hit me up in the comments if you’d like to know more about what I thought about them!

7. Flee: A man gets really animated as he recounts his refugee story from Afghanistan to Russia to Denmark.
6. Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn: Life in Romania gets pretty hostile after a private video leaks onto the Internet.
5. Summer of Soul: Major acts of the 1960s perform in Harlem; some of them also talk about it decades later.
4. Old: Time really does fly when you’re on the beach!
3. Shiva Baby: Young adult attends a Jewish funeral reception; it gets really awkward because the rest of her life intrudes unexpectedly.
2. Malignant: Creeped-out lady witnesses strange, bloody murders; her sister and a handsome detective investigate (separately). Mom might have secrets…
1. Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar: Two close friends finally take a vacation; colorful romance and intrigue ensue.
