Still wondering whose line it is after all these years… (CREDIT: The CW/Screenshot)
It’s no secret that one of my favorite TV shows of all time is the comedy improv “game” show Whose Line Is It Anyway? I’ve podcasted about it. I’ve written about it here on this very website. I’ve quoted it incessantly in real life. So having proselytized about the Gospel According to Clive, Drew, & Aisha so much already, why do I suddenly feel the need to talk about it at length once more?
Well, I’ve had multiple conversations recently with people who aren’t even aware that new episodes are still airing. And I’m not surprised about that! They’re not being advertised very heavily, after all. But if you do want to watch, all you have to do is turn on The CW on Friday nights at 8:00 PM Eastern! Or stream the next day on The CW’s app or website.
Perhaps you weren’t even aware that it was ever rebooted by The CW. Well, indeed it was, way back in 2013. In its first few seasons, this iteration of WLiiA? relied a little too heavily on guest stars that often weren’t a great fit for the demands of improv, but it’s since gone on to find its sea legs and produce some of the most hilarious moments in Whose Line history. And now this current run has lasted longer than both the ABC/ABC Family era AND the original British version.
It’s been a little surprising even for me that the show has continued the last couple of years, seeing as back in 2022, Colin Mochrie announced that the cast was shooting its final season. And yet it somehow keeps getting renewed. I think that may be because they shoot so much extra material at a time that they’re able to produce multiple episodes out of a single shooting session. I hope that the cast is getting paid for all these bonus episodes. (Alas, based on this Vulture interview with Colin, I have my doubts.)
If you want to catch up on this current Whose Line era, you can head to The CW’s website and catch every season. (I don’t think you need a cable login, as far as I can tell.) Or if you still have cable, it looks like reruns occasionally air on some channel called Aspire. And the original U.K. version appears to be available to stream on Amazon Prime, Roku, Sling, and something called Xumo. Alas, I can’t find the Drew Carey era currently streaming anywhere, but there are plenty of clips on YouTube.
