Jeff “jmunney” Malone watches every new episode of Saturday Night Live and then reviews all the sketches and segments according to a “wacky” theme.

Hello, I am reporting for duty to review the tenth episode of the forty-ninth season of Saturday Night Live. For the guest lineup, we’ve got some returning friends, with Dakota Johnson hosting and Justin Timberlake as the musical guest. Since this is a reunion of sorts of The Social Network, I will take inspiration from that movie and review each sketch by paraphrasing a certain beloved line from that flick and ask, “You know what’s cool?”

Jeff “jmunney” Malone watches every new episode of Saturday Night Live and then reviews all the sketches and segments according to a “wacky” theme.

Fact: the first SNL host of 2024 is Jacob Elordi. I’ve seen him in Saltburn and Priscilla.

Fact: the first SNL musical guest of 2024 is Reneé Rapp. Here’s the rap on her: I’ve enjoyed her in The Sex Lives of College Girls and Mean Girls (2024).

Since the week leading up to this episode has been one of the coldest this winter in my neighborhood, I’ve decided to review each sketch by using the words “cold,” “cool,” “hot,” “warm,” or some derivation thereof.

Jeff’s Wacky SNL Review: Kate McKinnon/Billie Eilish

It’s the last new SNL of 2023, former cast member Kate McKinnon has returned to host, Billie Eilish is the musical guest for the third time, Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph also stopped by – clearly, everyone just wants to have fun.

A few times in the past, I’ve adopted a reviewing strategy themed around a holiday. But I’ve never done it for New Year’s Day before, seeing as SNL tends to bypass that time of the year. But I’m going to go ahead and not bypass it. Thus for this episode, I’m reviewing each sketch by declaring “Happy New Year!” to someone or something.

Jeff’s Wacky SNL Review: Adam Driver/Olivia Rodrigo

Merry Christmas! (And I’ll probably say it again next week, too.) For the second new SNL episode of December 2023, we’ve got a couple of returning favorites in the form of host Adam Driver and musical guest Olivia Rodrigo.

I ran a 5K on Saturday morning, and not only is “Driver” Adam’s last name, but he’s also playing a famous car person in an upcoming movie. So with that feeling of speed going so strong, I’m going to get through my review quickly by offering just one word per sketch. Furthermore, Olivia Rodrigo’s breakthrough single was also automobile-related, although “Drivers License” actually moved at a rather leisurely pace. But she’s really kept up the momentum since then!

Oh man, I’m totally Stoned. (CREDIT: NBC/Screenshot)

This here is a review of the December 2, 2023 episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by Emma Stone with musical guest Noah Kahan. It’s her fifth time, and interestingly enough, a few days ago, I had a dream in which I met her right after she hosted this episode. So I think that’s a good sign!

For this review, I will be transcribing the notes I took while watching the episode, which I’ve done a few times before, and I enjoyed how it worked out, so here we go again!

Jeff’s Wacky SNL Review: Jason Momoa/Tate McRae

Momoas for All! (CREDIT: NBC/Screenshot)

It’s time to review Jason Momoa’s second time hosting SNL! I know him better as “Jason Mimosa,” although I rarely imbibe that early in the morning. Tate McRae is the musical guest, and I think I’ve heard her name before, but I somehow hadn’t heard her tunes yet.

Anyway, since Thanksgiving is knocking on the door, I’m reviewing each sketch of this episode by declaring what I’m thankful for.

Jeff’s Wacky SNL Review?: Timothée Chalamet/boygenius

I’m feeling a little chalamet today. That’s probably because I just watched the latest episode of Saturday Night Live, which was hosted by Timothée Chalamet. Am I also feeling like a genius, seeing as boygenius was the musical guest? Baby, I feel like a genius every day!

For the last episode, I reviewed each episode by asking a question, and it worked out so well that I decided to do it again!

Jeff’s Wacky SNL Review?: Nate Bargatze/Foo Fighters

You Foos! (CREDIT: NBC/Screenshot)

You’re not gonna believe this (unless you already know): Nate Bargatze hosted SNL. (He was surprised as we were.) He’s a stand-up comedian whose name I recognize, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him in anything before this. I kind of remember him releasing a well-liked Netflix special a few years ago.

On the other end of the familiarity spectrum, the musical guest was one of the most frequent ever, with Foo Fighters making their ninth appearance (and their first since Taylor Hawkins’ passing, RIP).

Since I’m in an inquisitive mood, I’ve decided to review each of this episode’s sketches with a question.

Jeff’s Wacky SNL Review: Bad Bunny/Bad Bunny

I’ve got a bad feeling about this…

I’ve also got a leporine feeling about this, which is to say: my SNL spidey sense is tingling over the fact that Bad Bunny has now completed his outing as both host and musical guest on the 2nd episode of the 49th season of Saturday Night Live.

I took copious notes while watching this episode on my DVR the following morning, and now I’m going to share all of those notes with you. Bon appetit!

Oh, hey there! Well, the WGA strike is over, and the SAG strike doesn’t apply to every single show on TV. So it’s time for Saturday Night Live Season 49 to commence! Fast food is the theme of the guest list for the first show, what with Pete Davidson hosting and Ice Spice providing the tunes.

And I’m still doing the wacky reviews! I’m also in the midst of marathon training, so let’s make this quick and do one-word assessments for each sketch.
