In this feature, I look back at each day of the past week and determine what shows “won TV” for the night. That is, I consider every episode of television I watched that aired on a particular day and declare which was the best.
Sunday – Rick and Morty
Monday – People of Earth
Tuesday – Difficult People
Wednesday – Jeopardy! (But Honorable Mention to Marlon‘s theme song)
Thursday – Whose Line is it Anyway?
Friday – VICE
Saturday – I’m so ready to Halt and Catch Fire all the time.

Tuesday – Difficult People and Danny Aiello have me surprisingly relaxed.
Wednesday – The Carmichael Show finishes up like it’s no big deal.
Thursday – The Chris Gethard Show
Friday – VICE
Saturday – Orphan Black (a great title by the way, even if they’re not black)

Tuesday – New Girl floored me: (SPOILER) Schmidt?! (SPOILER) still loves (SPOILER)?!
Wednesday – Full Frontal reveals that Government Works!
Thursday – Review stopped, but Forrest MacNeil didn’t.
Friday – RuPaul’s Drag Race
Saturday – Rick and Morty delivered a delightful April Fools surprise, but the Final Four showcased offensive rebounding like all get out.

These selections lean heavily toward comedy, for two reasons: I watch more comedies than dramas, and comedies naturally distill their greatness more readily into individual episodes while dramas do so more naturally in multi-episode arcs. The top 5 are ranked below, while the rest are unranked and organized alphabetically by show.

“Rixty Minutes”
Ah, yes, the episode in which Rick hooks up the TV with a converter that receives programming from every conceivable dimension. What could be just a series of quick gags … is a series of quick gags, but not just a series of quick gags. Each program makes you want to live in that world to figure out what, for example, would compel someone to make a commercial for fake doors that turns into an existential short film. This is a canny movie, as it sets up potential callbacks (with depth) for future episodes. Season 2’s “The Ricks Must Be Crazy,” indeed, features a Ball Fondlers movie. Perhaps there is also a world in which Turbulent Juice is recalled.
